More Fun

Since I had the afternoon to myself and the weather was GORGEOUS out, I decided to put on a cute new outfit and flip flops and head out of town. I found out about a cute little quilt/fabric shop several months ago in a town about 30 minutes from here. I had her order some of the Michael Miller ta dots for me and I went to pick it up today. I also found a couple other Michael Miller fabrics. Check out her website. She's got great prices!!!

More Fabric and Quilt Progress

Here is the progress I have made on my quilt...

I have over 60 blocks out of 100 done. I needed more fabric so I ordered more and here is what I found. I decided to go more with the blues and greens because there was so much pink already. The blocks are 9X9. The middles squares are 5X5. It's not going to be the most impressive quilt ever but isn't quilting all about personality?

Another New Outfit for Spring

This is a skirt (with shorts underneath). I think it turned out really cute. I'm not done with the top. I'm trying to decide if I should finish beading or just machine stitch around the edges.

Opinions?

My sewing story...

I had a great home ec teacher in the 7th or 8th grade. I loved my denim skirt I made...now remember that was in the 80's so I wouldn't think about making anything like it now. I made some aprons and pillows but that was about it. My mom also made some clothes for me.

My grandmother was also into crafts and sewing. She made all her Christmas ornaments and crocheted also. When she had to go into the nursing home 7 yrs ago I asked for her sewing machine and I knew I would get all her ornaments (I was the only granddaughter-yes I was spoiled by her!). Her machine is a Kenmore that is probably older than me but it's great machine.

The machine stayed in the laundry room at our house never being touched until we moved 2 yrs ago into a larger home. There was the perfect spot for it in my bedroom. So about a yr and a half ago I started making my daughter some clothes. The first was a tshirt dress. Then I began venturing out to things a little more difficult. Here is a pic of my first tshirt dress. Isn't she cute !!!!

I found out on April 15th of this year that we were able to get private insurance for our family at a great price. That was what I working for so I got to quit my job of 8 yrs. I loved my job but wanted to be home so bad. I then learned how to knit. The lovely ladies at Knit Unto Others taught me how to knit and I caught on quick. I carry something with me all the time so I can work on it if I'm just sitting. I started a sweater last week and had to start over yesterday....I think I finally got the hang of knit/purl/knit/purl.

One other thing I wanted to learn how to do was quilt. My son loves his Night Night (the quilt my Granny made us for our wedding) so the tradition will continue. I joined the local Quilter's Guild this fall. Yes I'm the youngest but who better to learn from than the professionals! Right now they are working on a quilt that chances will be sold on to make $$ for the Guild. Can't wait to post pictures of it.

Here is a picture of my sewing space...It's the corner of my bedroom and the bed...yes I use my bed! (And yes that is a golf bag in the corner...I need to sew up a pocket so we can put it in the yard sale)

So now, I have my little sewing business and love it! That's my story...what's yours?

Next Step started...

Look what I did....I'm so proud...

My first ever quilt block!!!!!!

I drew up my pattern this morning and to make the quilt I want (Queen size) it's going to take 100 blocks. Boy that's alot!!! But I can do it...If nothing else I can try for 100 and see how far I get.

Also, Here is some more of the fabric I got to go with it and more is on the way.

The blocks will all be trimmed in the lime polka dot with different fabrics on the inside!!! Most of the fabric is Amy Butler!

New Outfit for Spring

I said I was going to try and make all my little girls clothes but it hasn't happened yet. She does have quite a few things I have made in her closet though. Here is the latest....

The pants are capris and the top is a Garanimals top from Walmart. I used iron on adhesive to put the circles on and put beads around the edge. I really wanted sequins but of course Walmart didn't have any. This is the first time I've ever used iron on adhesive and the first time that I've embellished something with beads. It's not perfect but it's a unique outfit.

Any helpful hints on embellishing with beads???

First Quilt...first step done

I have taken the first step in making my first quilt....

I have picked out the fabric!!! I've decided to go with Amy Butler fabrics from the Belle and Lotus collections. The main fabric is going to be the lime/full moon polka dot in the Lotus/Damask Rose Collection. Everything else will coordinate with the lime. I'm working on ordering the fabric and then hopefully I can get started.

My goal is to get it done by this time next year!

Projects

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I don't have any pictures to post yet so that's why I haven't. Right now I'm working on a couple of orders. One is a fleece poncho...super easy! Another is 2 pair of pants for a little girls that is about to turn 1 in March. And then for my sweet girl I'm working on a pair of pants and contemplating some needlework on a shirt.

I also have the quilting bug. I have fabric picked out but haven't ordered it yet. It's all Amy Butler...I can't wait!!!

Hope to post a couple of pics soon!

Unfinished

We have been in our home for 2 years now. Everything is white except for the master bedroom and the kitchen...nothing wrong with that but I want color. I have made some things and had some things embroidered for my daughters room but haven't quite finished up...pillows not stuffed....pillows stuffed but not sewn completely up...bed skirt not made...room not painted. Ok so I have a lot to go. Here are some of the things I have done so far...

I can't wait to finish it b/c it's going to be adorable. So Christmas break is going to be spent on finishing some unfinished projects!

Are you like me and get so excited about a project but then get busy with something else and not finish?

Knitting Projects

I finally finished a scarf that I have been knitting for about a month and a half now. I love it and can't wait to wear it but I can't figure out what to wear it with...you would think with it being pink I could find something! This is made out of bamboo yarn and feels so good...these will definitely be gifted in the future.

This scarf on the right is my first knitting project ever. I think it turned out pretty good. I made one just like it for one of my best friends for Christmas but forgot to take a picture. It has a slit in it so it can be pulled through.

Scarf prices would depend on cost of yarn...right now there is a huge sale going on at the yarn store I use.

I've also finished a couple more projects and just forget to take pictures before they are given to their new owners. I hope that I can get some pictures to post of those.

Bow Factory

This past week has been a bow factory around my house. I've been making bows to send with a friends sister that has graciously offered to sell them at the daycare she works at...Thanks Michelle!

My bows are $4 each or 4 for $12...with the exception of large double bows and they are $5. The pony o's are the same price as the bows.

Here are some of the finished products...
